LTE: Sacrifice demands recognition
By Chris @ 3:06 AM :: 1079 Views :: 0 Comments

Hello, I am unsure of what Sen. Enzi was thinking when he showed up on the Senate floor to vote against the new GI Bill. But what I do know is after he voted that way I wrote him to question his vote.

He (his staffer) said something like; he voted that way because Democratic leadership introduced the bill and didn't give anyone time to work out the flaws.

Flaws, where is the flaw in taking care of the people who have served this great nation? Does Sen. Enzi not remember voting to send the people who will benefit from the GI Bill to war?

Fighting for this country is the biggest sacrifice anyone can make short of dying for this great land. Sen. Enzi obviously puts politics before veterans and that is why I am supporting Chris Rothfuss this election he would support returning veterans and not put partisan politics above taking care of them.

Chris Rothfuss could make a difference for you in the U.S. Senate. He's a far-thinker with solid ideas about energy conservation.

He's articulate, free to make his own decisions, and willing to stand up for individual rights.

He's bipartisan and able to work cooperatively with legislators from both parties. Chris would be a welcome new voice in the U.S. Senate.

CHEYENNE -- Chris Rothfuss spent three years in the heartland of the world of diplomacy and foreign affairs, the U.S. Department of State.

The Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate recently shared some of his experiences in the agency with University of Wyoming students in Jean Garrison's international studies class.

He spoke of the art of nuanced memo writing and negotiations.

For example, one phrase banned by the department was "responsible development," Rothfuss said.

The agency people who worked on the controversy in the European Union over genetically modified food in the 1980s and 1990s, he said, believed it was a loaded phrase.

Federal, state and local candidates voiced their opinions and answered audience members’ questions during a candidate forum on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The forum was held at the 4-H building and was co-sponsored by the Platte County Chamber of Commerce and the AAUW.

Although not in attendance, letters from U.S. Senators John Barrasso and Mike Enzi were read aloud.

Chris Rothfuss, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator, and Nick Carter, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator (unexpired term: 4 years) attended the forum and discussed the recent $700 billion bailout bill.

Senate candidate takes his campaign and his attitude door to door
By Chris @ 4:29 PM :: 1143 Views :: 0 Comments

A Newcastle man serenaded Nick Carter with his violin and the song he wrote after his wife died.

Last week, a puppy in Rock Springs peed all over the hands of Carter's campaign manager.

Carter almost got in a fight with a Casper man who cursed and threatened him for being a Democrat.

"Just because I'm running for office doesn't mean I won't pull you out of that car and teach you a lesson," Carter said.

Just another day on the campaign trail for a would-be senator.

Incumbent senators poll strongly
By Chris @ 1:18 PM :: 221 Views :: 0 Comments

[Casper Star Tribune]

CHEYENNE -- If the general election were held today, incumbent Republican U.S. Sens. Mike Enzie and John Barrasso would defeat their Democratic challengers by more than three-to-one margins, according to a poll commissioned by the Casper Star-Tribune.

Enzi, who is running for his third six-year term, was leading University of Wyoming instructor Chris Rothfuss 72 percent to 20 percent, respectively, with 8 percent undecided.

I didn't leave the Republican party -- it left me. I can pinpoint the year, 1979, when the "Moral Majority" (religious fundamentalists) took over the Republican precinct meetings across the nation. At the time, I was a Republican district secretary in Anchorage, Alaska.

'Big Labor' is back
By Chris @ 3:05 AM :: 182 Views :: 0 Comments

JOAN BARRON

CHEYENNE -- It's that time in this general election cycle for "Big Labor" to be back in the news.

... The Democrats have two credible candidates running for the two Senate seats but they are being outspent big time. Both Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso have millions of dollars to spend on the race.

Democrat Chris Rothfuss, a University of Wyoming instructor, has donations of about $20,000 in his race against Enzi but hasn't accepted political action committee (PAC) money....

LTE: Media darlings monopolize race

By lack of media coverage one might think that Republican candidates are running unopposed for the U.S. House and Senate. You see them getting free press in newspapers, on TV, etc., weekly. Not so! Do this election justice and look at these candidates:

Christopher Rothfuss is really well informed, well educated, very intelligent and will impress you. He is running for U.S. Senate. Check out his debate schedule, tune in and expect to be pleasantly surprised. Chris is a Diplomat, Engineer, Teacher and Citizen with Wyoming family and Wyoming values.

Be an informed voter. You will want to check out Wyoming attorney Nick Carter, running for the other seat in the U.S. Senate. Nick is "Wyoming tough," a well educated, intelligent, informed Wyoming businessman willing to go to Washington, D.C., and help fix our broken system. Nick invites you to be part of the solution, vote for Nick Carter.

We are familiar with Mr. Gary Trauner, running for a seat in Congress. Gary is a father, husband and businessman here in Wyoming. He's a straight-talker who will listen to the people of Wyoming -- not to political parties for the change we need in our beloved country.

Many folks I know have grown tired of the failing policies of the current administration and realize that it is imperative that we use our votes wisely this time. Please join me in voting for Christopher Rothfuss, Nick Carter and Gary Trauner this November. And remember to register. The deadline is in early October.

JO KOCH, Casper

LTE: Solutions assemble with new team

Editor:

This is especially for those people who "vote for the person and not for the party." This is the year for you. There are clear choices for all of Wyoming's representatives in Washington: For U.S. representative, we have Gary Trauner, and for U.S. senators, Nick Carter and Chris Rothfuss.

I would like to put in a word for Chris Rothfuss, who is probably the least known around the state, but equal to the high quality of the other candidates.

He has had actual experience as a diplomat working for the U.S. Department of State in the office of Space and Advanced Technology, has a Bachelor of Arts in international studies and has held other national and international positions.

He is an engineer with international oilfield experience, has two Master of Science degrees and a Ph.D. in the field of chemical engineering and physics. He has also taught diplomacy and negotiations at the University of Wyoming.

He has thought through the major issues facing us and is ready to put useful ideas into play the minute he takes his seat in the Senate. Check him and his position statements out on his campaign Web site.

Ten years ago the U.S. had a growing economy, a surplus in the budget, and was the respected diplomatic leader of the world. Take a look at where we are now. It is obvious that we need a drastic change in direction from the past eight years and the way to get that is to put new, qualified, people in Washington, D.C.

Our voice will be heard and heeded in Washington, D.C., with Wyoming's dream team of Gary Trauner, Chris Rothfuss and Nick Carter.
