Laramie, WY, April 10, 2010: Laramie resident Chris Rothfuss announced his run for Wyoming State Senate, District #9 Friday in the Wyoming Student Union Skylight Lounge. Rothfuss is running for the seat held by former State Senator Mike Massie.

Massie is stepping aside to run for Superintendent of Public Instruction. He had held the seat since 1998.

Rothfuss is a chemical engineer and an adjunct professor of international studies at the University of Wyoming. He previously worked for the U.S. State Department and as a U.S. delegate to the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
“Chris is looking forward to sharing his positive ideas about many issues, both for Albany County and for Wyoming over the next four years in the Wyoming Senate,” said Andrew Simons, campaign manager for Rothfuss. “He is very interested in the further development of our energy resources, a move that will get Wyoming people back to work, and improving our student’s performance in school through recruiting quality teachers and keeping the teachers we have now.”

The event began at 1 p.m. with Rothfuss annoucing his candidacy and goals for Laramie and Wyoming.

After the announcement, Laramie residents were able to visit with Rothfuss and ask him their questions. Many students, staff, faculty and community members stopped by to enjoy coffee and cookies, and to share their concerns with Rothfuss, asking about his ideas on energy development and the funding of the university.

"This was a perfect opportunity for Chris to share with Laramie residents what he can do for Laramie and for the state of Wyoming as a senator for district nine," said Simons. "We're looking forward to getting out there and sharing our ideas with the voters and listening to their concerns."
