CHEYENNE -- Whatever state Sen. Mike Massie’s political future is, it won’t include a fifth term in the Wyoming Senate.
Massie, a tall, bearded 16-year Senate veteran, said Wednesday that he won’t be running for re-election this fall. However, the Laramie Democrat said he’ll decide by the end of the month whether to run for statewide office, such as state superintendent of public instruction or governor.
"Sixteen years (in the Senate) is sufficient," Massie said. "I don't want to be hanging around longer than I should be. And it's time, after 16 years of 60-hour work weeks, to hand the ball off to somebody else."
Already, at least two Democrats are vying to succeed Massie: Laramie Mayor Jodi Guerin and 2008 Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Chris Rothfuss.

Politics should not be a zero sum game, in which one side has to lose if the other is to win, a former and possibly future candidate for elected office told Natrona County Democrats on Saturday.
The nation's elected leadership needs to "focus on problems, instead of the opposition," former U.S. Senate candidate Chris Rothfuss said in his keynote speech to the Natrona County Democratic Convention.
Members of both political parties should approach contentious issues by looking at what will be best for the American people, said Rothfuss, who lost his 2008 senate race to Republican Mike Enzi.

CHEYENNE -- If the United States could save the half a trillion dollars a year it now spends on foreign oil, it could do wonders for the nation's ailing economy, said Chris Rothfuss, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.
That statement seems a given, but getting to sustainable energy independence is complicated, said Sen. Mike Enzi, and will require the expertise he has acquired in nearly 12 years in the U.S. Senate.
Enzi, 64, is a Republican seeking his third six-year term.
A former mayor of Gillette and state senator, he is the only accountant in the Senate.
Rothfuss, 36, is a chemical engineer and an instructor at the University of Wyoming making his first try for elected political office.
Rothfuss describes himself as a consensus builder who can bring a scientist's perspective to the nation's energy problems.
He believes those problems are closely tied to the nation's economic troubles.

This year we have a really good candidate running for the U.S. Senate, and he truly has my vote. He has the right kind of ideas that I do like in a candidate. Chris Rothfuss is that one who can get the job done in the Senate.
Dear people of this great state of Wyoming, it is the right time, and the right man. He has very good values like me and you, and he and all of us are not very happy with the job that Congress has been doing for the last decade.
We are concerned about education, health care, energy, the war in Iraq and in the world to. Chris Rothfuss is the right person for this job in the Senate.
We hope that the people of this good state of Wyoming will take a really good look at this wonderful man, his Web site. He has really good plan for this state. Please please all you good people get out and vote this Nov. 4, and put your mark by this good man's name.

As the election draws near, I'd like to encourage centrists, independents, and multi-issue voters (i.e., not party lap-dogs) to take a close look at Chris Rothfuss's abilities and potential.
Given Sen. Enzi's record of pandering to health-care and banking interests, it's high time Wyoming had a new voice in the Senate. Sen. Enzi is a nice person, but he's been either ineffective or just plain wrong on health care, the economy, and perhaps most importantly, energy.
Rothfuss, however, possesses experience and knowledge that will be sorely needed as America determines its energy (and subsequently foreign) policy. As a chemical engineer he worked in oil fields; as a science and technology adviser in the State Department, he dealt with diplomacy and intelligence issues.
Additionally, Rothfuss believes in protecting all of your constitutional rights, not just the convenient and easy ones. Rothfuss is a Wyoming product -- high school in Casper, first two college degrees from UW -- focused on getting our state's interests and energy expertise heard in the Senate. Please vote for him this Nov. 4.

CHEYENNE -- U.S. Senate candidates Mike Enzi and Chris Rothfuss debated subjects ranging from the economy to the Iraq war in a televised debate Sunday night.
Enzi, the Republican incumbent, is seeking his third six-year term in the Senate. Rothfuss, a chemical engineer and instructor at the University of Wyoming, is the Democratic challenger.
It was the first debate in a series of forums featuring congressional candidates scheduled to be broadcast by Wyoming PBS this week from its Riverton studio.
Enzi said Congress helped cause the economic meltdown by requiring Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to carry out social programs that encouraged people to get mortgage loans they couldn't afford.
"We tried to put more oversight onto the government-sponsored entities, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and others," said Enzi, an accountant and former member of the Wyoming Legislature. "And we weren't able to do that because every time they were brought up we were asked to put more social programs on them."

Jane Ifland, she is the best choice for representative of Wyoming House District 57. Jane Ifland has years of experience in business ownership, business management and governance, in standing up against prejudice of all kinds, in standing up for economic justice, and in working for citizens from all walks of life.
She has worked alongside people of all party affiliations. Jane Ifland is a fighter with an astonishing level of energy and enthusiasm who stays up to speed on all issues affecting Wyoming citizens all of the tittle and is a problem solver.
She will be our advocate on a personal, local and state level. She will be our voice. Vote for Jane Ifland. You will be doing yourself, your family, and District 57 a great service.
The entire Democratic slate for 2008 is outstanding! As you vote this election, quite possibly the most important election of our lifetimes, vote for the change in Ieadership that is so desperately needed locally and nationally.
I urge you to vote for Kimberly Holloway for city council, Ray Pacheco and Worth Christie for county commissioners, Dr. Bert Toews, Erich Frankland, Mary Hales, Fred Arnold, Jane Ifland and Mike Gilmore in their respective legislative seats, Gary Trauner for U.S. House, Nick Carter and Chris Rothfuss for the U.S. Senate, and Barack Obama for president of the United States.
They are all leaders who can bring change to this country, a change that puts you first, change that solves economic problems instead of creating them, change that upholds the Constitution of the United States instead of rewriting it, change that gives us back our pride in America.
Yes, change that gives us a future to look forward to in our city, state and nation instead of dreading what tomorrow may bring. You deserve the best. Vote for a Democrat and you will have voted for the best.
SUE RAINEY, Casper
