Dr. Chris Rothfuss, Democratic candidate for Wyoming State Senate District 9, attended the state Democratic Convention in Casper on May 14-15.

Although the press reported that few candidates attended the convention, Rothfuss, who was the only Senate candidate from District 9 to attend, found the experience positive and energizing.

"It was a positive atmosphere and a wonderful opportunity to catch up with fellow Democrats from around the state," Rothfuss said.  "It also gave me a chance to discuss my Senate run this fall and build support around the state.  I stressed the importance of maintaining our seven member Democratic foothold in the Wyoming State Senate this year."

The convention was held at the Parkway Plaza Convention Centre. Rothfuss's campaign manager, Andrew Simons, also attended the convention, and reported that it was a good experience. "The weather was fine on Friday turning to light rain on Saturday morning," Simons said. "All in all the convention was well attended. There were excellent workshops to found on Friday on everything from running election software to crafting campaign messages."

Rothfuss said he was impressed by the candidates and delegates he met. "I had a chance to spend some time with David Wendt, the Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representatives that will be opposing Representative Lummis this year.  I believe David will be an excellent candidate and a distinguished voice on the campaign trail.  He brings an extensive background of public service and international experience to the House race," he said.

Campaign manager Simons agreed with Rothfuss's positive impressions of the event. "Joe Barbuto did an excellent job getting the convention underway as the convention chair," he said.

Over 200 delegates were seated at the convention.

Rothfuss is running for the State Senate seat formerly occupied by Mike Massie, who is running for State Superintendent of Education.  The primary balloting occurs on August 17.
